Grilled Bread with Feta

Heat your grill to low (inside or outside).

  • 1 Baguette
  • garlic clove, halved
  • 3-4 ,oz. feta

Cut 8 slices of a baguette and brush both sides with olive oil. Grill on one side just until golden.  Rub the grilled side with a halved garlic clove.

Now pile on about 3-4 oz. of feta. Return to the grill, put a cover over them and grill until the undersides are golden and the cheese has softened. About 1-2 minutes and drizzle with a touch of olive oil.

These make tasty appetizers. Make sure your guests have small plates and cloth napkins. Serve with a signature martini of yours and let the evening commence.

Showings

Realtor showing this morning. Hopefully the muffins will do the trick. Let you know.

Besides, Don is treating me OUT for breakfast. What a concept. We really don’t do that very often so I am very happy about this.

I guess its too early to really celebrate isn’t it?

Festive Season Table Ideas

I have, very rarely, used bright red and green for the holiday table. I have used softer tones, neutrals, whites, softer sage greens.

These colours usually make the table look elegant, even though you might consider using paper plates. When using bright colours it is more light-hearted.  If you don’t have napkins that match the table cloth, you can’t go wrong if you put out white cloth ones. BUT, they should be as bright a white as you can find. This gives a crisp look and shows you are starting to pay attention to details.

You can make napkin rings with a bit of a sparkle to create atmosphere. Always have candles and fresh flowers. You can laugh, I always have tulips in the house at Christmas. I like white but have used a soft pink. Depends on what I am using. Below is a setting for a “pre” Christmas dinner with friends,

Weekend Breakfast Hint

When making pancakes, you want to be able to sit everyone down and eat all at the same time.

I’ll just bet you stack the pancakes on top of each other and put them in the oven. Right? When the batch is all made up you  find that they get soggy when it is time to serve them.

Try this: Lay them out on parchment paper lined cookie sheets in a single layer. Also, don’t heat them for more than about 15 minutes as they will begin to dry out.

You’re welcome.

Upcoming Season

I have some great tips for you regarding the upcoming festive season.

But first:

Did you know that gold is considered a male colour and silver is feminine? It may make a difference when it comes to your table settings. Me? Not a chance.

Whatever makes the table setting look special is the way to go. More later. Lots of tips coming your way. Tablecloth, napkins, napkin covers, candles, flowers (fresh).

The Holiday Martini

Last night when my friend was over, I made a Holiday Martini. Always remember to chill the glasses.

  • 6 parts commercial egg nog
  • 2 parts vanilla vodka
  • 1 part Baileys
  • 1 part Creme de Cacao

Pour into shaker filled with ice, and shake for a few seconds. Strain and sprinke a teeny amount of fresh grated nutmeg on top. One sip and she said “yummmmmm, tastes like another”.

Another successful venture into the martini world.

Tasters

A fun way to explore food!

Don and I were out shopping and found some smaller sized dishes and bowls. My head starting spinning thinking about recipes to put into these dishes to make it a Taster Party!

This is better than just the “out of the freezer” entertaining. Use some of them but make some from scratch. Especially the little hamburgers. You can do so much with them. Later

Monday Tips

Bounce is more than for the dryer….did you know you can wipe up sawdust from drilling or sand papering. A used sheet of bounce will collect sawdust like a tack cloth.

If you are a golfer, next Spring make sure you put a bounce sheet in your back pocket to keep the bees away. (Always carry them in the golf bag and you will be ready for the attack).

If you wish to eliminate static cling on either your television or computer screens, dust with a Bounce sheet.

Now, aren’t you glad you have this info at the ready? Me, too!

Sunday

Well, clocks turned back and guess what? We both were up at 5:30 am.

That really made it 4:30 a.m. I guess we should not have gone to bed last night at 9: p.m.

Shopping

Started shopping for the ingredients I will need for the marathon baking we do on November 11 each year.

It took about an hour (list in hand, of course) and away we went. Right now my kitchen looks like a cyclone hit it.

Don’t look – wait until Friday when it is back to normal. You should begin gathering all the ingredients you will need for  your baking.
